We Take a Look at Hole-istic Golf with Performance Optimizer Dr. Craig Davies and Golf Coach Sean Foley

Yet another U.S. Open is behind us. It was filled, as they always are, with highlights of the good, the bad, and the ugly. We saw a course that tormented players all week, eventually leading many to their breaking points. We saw Phil Mickleson do something, well, quite odd. And finally, we saw Brooks Koepka achieve something that only a few people in the history of the sport have ever done: win back-to-back U.S. Opens.

This week on Playing with Science, we aren’t leaving the course just yet. Our hosts Gary O’Reilly and Chuck Nice sit down with the people who make it all happen behind-the-scenes: performance optimizer Dr. Craig Davies and golf coach Sean Foley.

Sean and Craig have influenced and improved the games of many well-known professionals on the PGA Tour including Justin Rose, Hunter Mahan, and Tiger Woods.

You’ll hear how Sean and Craig analyze all the components and factors that go into the holistic approach of not just a good golfer, but a good professional. We explore the biomechanics, kinesiology, and technology that go into getting the best results out of an athlete. You’ll discover more about hyper-mobility in a golf swing and how it could be detrimental. You’ll also hear Sean explain how his coaching has evolved over the years. Craig also explains how the connective tissue and movement of electrons in our bodies impacts the way we perform – it’s something you don’t want to miss.

You’ll find out more about the evolution of the professional golfer and how that’s impacted the way golfers train and perform. As an avid golfer myself, this episode was a dream. I’ve been to a fair share of professional golf tournaments and I’ve seen Sean coaching the world’s best players on the driving range and on the course, so, to hear him break down his coaching philosophy and see how he looks at the world was a real treat.

This episode is the latest in our series of golf-centric episodes. You can find the other ones right here: Golf Science, with Geoff Ogilvy and Neil deGrasse Tyson and Biomechanics of the Perfect Golf Swing.
