Tuesday, Neuroscience and Physics Collide at StarTalk All-Stars at BAM

If you weren’t at our StarTalk at BAM: Science is Everywhere show at The Brooklyn Academy of Music earlier this month, fear not, because this week on StarTalk All-Stars you’ll get to some of the action you missed.

Neuroscientist and host Heather Berlin is joined onstage by comic co-host Chuck Nice, theoretical physicist and best-selling author Brian Greene, and our very own Neil deGrasse Tyson, as we explore the intersection of neuroscience and physics.

Consciousness, time, and free will – that’s what’s on the docket. Who better to explore those things than our All-Stars crew? To start things off, Brian weighs in on what the physics are, if any, behind free will. Then, on the opposite side, Heather explains what free will looks like through the eyes of a neuroscientist, and how there’s common ground in both viewpoints.

As a special musical interlude, Canadian rapper and science communicator Baba Brinkman stops by to freestyle rhymes based on the conversation that just happened – spoiler alert – it’s fantastic.

As if this episode couldn’t blow your mind enough, we then dive into time: whether it’s an illusion, how to use brain stimulation to change your perception of time, and what two great thinkers, Einstein and Wheeler, said about time.

As you’ll probably tell from the atmosphere at the event, we, and our audience, had a blast at BAM. We showcased all three StarTalk Podcast Network programs and the results were better than we could have imagined.

There’s more to come from our time (illusion or not) at BAM, but for now, enjoy this neuroscience/physics extravaganza!

NOTE: Baba Brinkman is currently performing Rap Guide to Consciousness off-Broadway at the Soho Playhouse. Tickets can be found here.

Please join us tomorrow night for Neuroscience and Physics Collide – All-Stars at BAM at 7pm EDT right here on our website, as well as on our All-Stars channel Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Stitcher, and TuneIn. And if you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can watch or listen to this episode ad-free at 7pm, too.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
