Tonight, Look Back at Your Favorite Episodes with Season 8 Time Capsule Part 1

This week on StarTalk Radio we bring you our yearly tradition of the Time Capsule episodes. For Part 1, which you’ll hear this week, we include a wide selection of episodes covering many of your favorite topics – as voted on by you!

To start things off, Neil sits down with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria and Chuck Nice to discuss the impact of immigration on science and technology in America. You’ll also hear Fareed explain how the United States became a science powerhouse after World War II, which is one of my favorite intellectual moments from this past season.

After that, explore the power of science fiction and Star Trek’s cultural impact as Neil sits down with William Shatner, Chuck Nice, and Charles Liu.

Then, Terry Crews and Neil discuss Terry’s life-long path of fitness and where his desire to be strong comes from. This week’s episode gives you just a glimpse of how warm and kind Terry Crews is and how interesting it is to listen to him – so definitely check out the full-length episode if you haven’t already.

You’ll hear Col. Chris Hadfield (Ret.), former astronaut and ISS Commander, take over the hosting chair for our StarTalk Live! from Future Con: Engineering the Future as he sheds light, no pun intended, on his experience spacewalking “through” the Northern Lights while on a mission. I really enjoy hearing astronauts describe the feeling of being in space and Chris certainly does a great job putting you right there in the moment. This episode also features a drop in from Dr. Stephen Hawking, yes that Stephen Hawking, via holographic technology.

Next, enjoy a little from one of my personal favorite episodes from this past season: Human Augmentation with Adam Savage and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Neil and Adam are joined onstage by Chuck Nice and one of my favorite first-time guests from this past year, Matthew Lao, philosopher and bioethics professor at NYU. The atmosphere was incredible when we recorded this at NY Comic Con 2017 and you can feel it as you listen.

Rounding out Part 1 of our Time Capsule is none other than Bill Nye. 2017 was a year of scientific ignorance carving a place into the zeitgeist of America and Bill Nye is one of the leaders for finding scientific truth. In this clip, he chats with Chuck and Ross Andersen, Senior Editor at The Atlantic, about numerous topics related to science literacy: social media, voting, political activism, and more.

Be sure to tune in tonight and don’t miss Part 2 of our Time Capsule next week!

Please join us tomorrow night for Season 8 Time Capsule (Part 1) at 7pm ET right here on our website, as well as on our channels on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Stitcher, and TuneIn. And if you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can listen to this episode ad-free at 7pm, too.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
