Tonight at 7pm ET, We Wrap Up Our Time at BAM with StarTalk All-Stars and Playing with Science

Oh, how sweet it was. Our time at BAM had to come to a close eventually. On this episode of StarTalk Radio, we pick up right where we left off last week in Part 1.

Rejoin StarTalk All-Stars host and neuroscientist Heather Berlin, comic co-host Chuck Nice, theoretical physicist and author Brian Greene, and StarTalk’s benevolent overlord Neil deGrasse Tyson as they continue to explore the brain.

The main point of discussion in the latter half of the StarTalk All-Stars show is time. We ponder if time is an illusion, and if it is, what that means for the human experience. You’ll explore how the perception of time changes when you’re in different “states.” Heather also explains how neuroscientific experiments can alter how people experience time.

After that, we say goodbye to Brain Greene, Chuck takes the hosting seat, and we move swiftly into our presentation of Playing with Science. Our other intrepid co-host, Gary O’Reilly, was unfortunately grounded in London during the time of this show so Chuck flies solo as host. However, we do have a special guest to join Chuck, Neil, and Heather on stage: Olympic silver medalist figure skater Sasha Cohen.

You’ll learn about the physics of figure skating and Sasha tells us what it’s like to experience the physics first hand. You’ll also hear about muscle memory, or procedural memory, and how being too self-aware can cause problems.

Lastly, you’ll hear why figure skaters don’t get dizzy, Neil reminisces about his time as a rink guard, and Neil gives Sasha a way to successfully pull off a “quint” – 5 spins in the air – however, his suggestion is not necessary “legal.”

Please join us tomorrow night for StarTalk at BAM – Science is Everywhere (Part 2) at 7pm ET right here on our website, as well as on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Stitcher, and TuneIn. If you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can watch or listen to this episode ad-free at 7pm, too.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
