Surprise Guests Are Part of the Fun at StarTalk Live!

Part of the fun of going to StarTalk Live! is that you never know who’s going to show up on stage… even when you think you know.

This past Sunday, lucky StarTalk fans got treated to an extra surprise, when Dr. David Grinspoon, aka Dr. FunkySpoon, showed up as a surprise science guest at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston. Not only was it Dr. FunkySpoon’s second STL, but he’s also guest hosted for Neil on StarTalk Radio.

Of course, David wasn’t the only StarTalk Live! alumni to join host Bill Nye the Science Guy and co-host Eugene Mirman: Kristen Schaal, who’s been a guest at 4 of our live shows, more than any other guest, was there too.

As we move into bigger venues, like BAM and, on June 5th, The Beacon Theatre in NYC, it’s often their policy to mention the headline guests. But that doesn’t mean there’s not room for a surprise now and then.

In fact, even our guest host, Bill Nye, was once a surprise himself, as any of you who were in the audience at BAM can attest. Our fans knew they’d be seeing Mayim Bialik, but when Bill jumped out of the audience and onto the stage, the roar was deafening, certainly the loudest cheer I’ve ever heard at a StarTalk Live! (Including the cheer that met surprise guest moonwalker Buzz Aldrin at our first Town Hall show!)

We’ve already announced some of the guests at our next StarTalk Live! at The Beacon Theatre: Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a professor of Environmental Law and founder of the Waterkeeper Alliance, and His Holiness The Gyalwang Drukpa. And we know Neil deGrasse Tyson and Eugene Mirman will be there. But will they be alone, or do we have another surprise guest up our sleeve?

Find out for yourself: tickets are on-sale, and good seats are still available.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
