September Events – The LAST StarTalk Live! at the EMCF and StarTalk All-Stars Recordings

This is a busy fall for StarTalk. Not only does StarTalkTV return for a new season on the National Geographic Channel this October, but we’re also doing a very important StarTalk Live!, a handful of episodes we’re recording in front of audiences at festivals, and more.

The LAST StarTalk Live! at the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival

September 18, 2017 – Kings Theatre in Brooklyn NY – Doors Open 7pm, Show Starts at 8pm – Get Tickets Here.

As many of you know, StarTalk Live! began as a performance at the 4th Annual Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival at the Bell House in Brooklyn, NY. Now, sadly, the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival is ending, and the world of live comedy will certainly feel its absence. The EMCF has been the home to both headliners and young comedians just getting their start – along with a fledgling science and comedy podcast we feel pretty strongly about.

Now don’t worry: StarTalk Live! itself isn’t ending. In fact, we’re planning on expanding our performances to cover more cities, with more new hosts and co-hosts taking the stage besides Neil, Bill and Eugene.

But on September 18, we’ll mark the end of an era when we perform at the last EMCF. And we’re going to go out with a heck of a show. We don’t know the full lineup yet, but we do know that joining Neil deGrasse Tyson and Eugene Mirman on stage will be frequent StarTalk guest comedian Michael Ian Black, who has been our guest for 3 StarTalk Live! shows and numerous other episodes, and first time StarTalk Live! guest comedian Whoopi Goldberg, who has also been Neil’s guest on two different episodes of StarTalk.

Don’t miss this historic event! (Well, it’s historic to us.) Get tickets here for StarTalk Live! at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY on September 18, 2017.

“Filmed Before a Studio Audience”

The vast majority of our podcasts have been filmed in studios with virtually no room for an audience, and in fact, for many years, no room for anyone but Neil, a co-host, and rarely, a guest.

The first of our podcasts which were filmed before live audiences were the recordings we made at StarTalk Live! shows. Next, of course, came StarTalk TV on the National Geographic Channel, which is filmed before a live studio audience in the Cullman Hall of the Universe at the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History, where our host, Neil deGrasse Tyson is the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium.

But starting last year, we began recording episodes of our podcasts in a variety of locations in front of other kinds of audiences. We recorded an episode of StarTalk Radio at the 92nd St Y when Neil deGrasse Tyson interviewed futurist Ray Kurzweil. We recorded episodes of StarTalk All-Stars in front of panel audiences at both Star Trek: Mission New York and NY Comic Con 2016. We recorded three episodes of StarTalk Playing with Science at the 2017 South by Southwest Festival with our friends at TuneIn. (Baseball: Physics at the Plate, Slam Dunk Science (Part 1) and (Part 2))

This fall, we’re recording 5 more episodes in front of audiences at various festivals, convention panels and even at The Explorer’s Club. But, unlike our StarTalk TV episodes recorded at the museum, there is no ticket lottery to be in the audience. You must be a ticketholder for the various festivals or a member or ticketholder to the events at organizations like the 92 St Y or The Explorers Club event in October.

Here is a breakdown of our upcoming podcast recording sessions at events this September:
