Friday, StarTalk Live! Celebrates Citizen Science

StarTalk is feeling a little nostalgic this week. In September, we’ll have our final StarTalk Live! as a part of the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival as the festival takes its final bow after its tenth year.

(Further Clarification: This is not the final StarTalk Live! show, just the last one at the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival)

The first StarTalk Live!, StarTalk Live! at the Bell House took place at the 4th Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival with Neil deGrasse Tyson as host and Eugene Mirman as co-host, and laid the ground work for what has become an event filled with science, comedy, and lots of fun. Since then, our performances have included fantastic guests, different hosts like Bill Nye and Chris Hadfield, co-hosts like Scott Adsit, in venues across the United States. I’ve been to two StarTalk Live! shows and both of them have only left me wanting to go to more. There’s something about going to a live science-based event that’s special. The audience experience is unlike any other live show I’ve been to – and it’s because everyone is there to celebrate science.

Both the shows I’ve been to have also featured Eugene Mirman as co-host and it’s really a fun time when Neil and Eugene are on stage together, and I have a feeling that the upcoming StarTalk Live! at the Kings Theatre is one that will be something special. The first StarTalk Live! show I went to, StarTalk Live at the Beacon Theatre: Chasing Comets, was a part of the EMCF and it was an absolute blast.

This week on StarTalk you’ll hear our show recorded at SF Sketchfest 2017. StarTalk Live! Citizen Science from San Francisco (Part 1) features host Bill Nye, co-host Eugene Mirman, space activist Ariel Waldman, SF Sketchfest co-founder Janet Varney, and comedian Claudia O’Doherty. The episode features discussions about citizen science, space innovation, and how we “hack” our way to the stars.

Although it’s the end of an era, there will be a lot of StarTalk Live! shows in the future. However, make sure to listen this week and don’t miss your chance to see the StarTalk Live! in September – a show that will be one to remember! StarTalk Live! at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY on 9/18/17 will be hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson with co-host Eugene Mirman and special guests. Doors open at 8pm. You can get tickets here.

Please join us tomorrow night for StarTalk Live! Citizen Science from San Francisco (Part 1) at 7pm EDT right here on our website, as well as on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Stitcher, and TuneIn. And if you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can watch or listen to this episode ad-free at 7pm, too.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
