Friday, Rediscover the Dark Mysteries of the Universe, Now Extended

Take a trip down memory lane this week on StarTalk Radio as we send it all the way back to Season 4. This week we have an Extended Classic of Cosmic Queries: Dark Mysteries of the Universe.

Neil deGrasse Tyson is joined by one of my favorite comic co-hosts, Leighann Lord, as they explore the mysteries of the universe that intrigue us all. On this episode, you’ll hear about black holes, neutron stars, the multiverse, photons, how many stars are born each day in the galaxy, and plenty more. You’ll also hear a blend of science and philosophy as the cosmos always offers a chance for Neil to ponder the grand scale of existence.

And tomorrow night, we’ve extended this episode with even more conversation for you to enjoy!

Listen in as Neil talks with Matt O’Dowd, astrophysicist and host of PBS Space Time. They chat about Star Trek and space exploration, and Matt asks Neil how he would allocate the entire government’s science budget – and his answer, as usual when Neil is passionate about something, does not disappoint.

Teaching science and igniting the curiosity of people to become scientifically literate is, unfortunately, sometimes a tall task. However, here at the StarTalk Podcast Network we try and put out content that does just that – intrigue, engage, and educate. Life can always benefit from a more well-informed public, so don’t be afraid to talk to people about science!

This rang true with Neil’s comments about why climate change denial is a threat to democracy during his most recent appearance on The Daily Show:

If [competing research] leans in the same direction, getting even approximately the same result, we are on top of a new emergent scientific truth. And if that’s what you want to stand in denial of, fine. In a free country, you have freedom to deny whatever you want. But if you rise to power and base legislation on something that is not objectively true, that is the beginning of the end of an informed democracy.”

Please join us tomorrow night for Extended Classic: Cosmic Queries – Dark Mysteries of the Universe at 7pm EDT right here on our website, as well as on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Stitcher, and TuneIn. And if you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can listen to this episode ad-free at 7pm, too.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
