Friday, Neil Tyson Answers Questions about the Intersection of Science and Morality

Can the scientific method be applied to political systems, society, and human behavior? That’s one of the main threads running through this Friday’s episode of StarTalk Radio, Cosmic Queries: Science and Morality.

This isn’t your typical Cosmic Queries episode. You asked some very deep, thought provoking questions. Questions that require some very deep, thoughtful answers that don’t necessarily lie in the realm of scientific provability.

Like why racism and bigotry persist in an era where science has debunked the myths of any race being genetically superior or inferior to another.

Or how humanity would react to the discovery of aliens, and, perhaps more importantly, how they might react to us.

Or the ethics and morality of cloning, and whether clones should have rights.

Crime, punishment, gun violence, terrorism, mutually assured destruction, imperialism, eugenics: these are just a few of the subjects that Neil deGrasse Tyson and co-host Eugene Mirman address in answering the Cosmic Queries submitted by our fans. They’ve got help – our in-studio guest is Michael Shermer, the founder and Editor in Chief of Skeptic Magazine and the author of The Moral Arc.
