Friday, Discover More of the Science You Love with StarTalk All-Stars

If you haven’t yet heard of our spin-off show StarTalk All-Stars, this week StarTalk Radio is going to be your friendly guide. On this week’s episode, you’ll hear the Season 2 Time Capsule for StarTalk All-Stars which features the best clips, discussions, and conversations from this past season – as chosen by the fans of the show and our producers, and hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson. So, if you’ve ever wanted to give StarTalk All-Stars a shot, this is the week to do it!

StarTalk All-Stars allows us to have a regularly rotating group of bright, charismatic scientists and experts to explore the topics you know and love – or don’t know and want to learn more about. StarTalk Radio favorites like Bill Nye, Chuck Nice, former astronaut Mike Massimino, “Madame Saturn” Carolyn Porco, neuroscientist Heather Berlin, and SETI Sr. Astronomer Seth Shostak all contribute to StarTalk All-Stars along with many other working scientist hosts, their co-hosts, and science guests.

In this Time Capsule episode, you’ll hear Bill Nye and Chuck Nice answer fan-submitted Cosmic Queries about science fiction on TV and in film, including the science used, and the lack of science used, on Gilligan’s Island, The Blair Witch Project, and more. You’ll also learn about the importance of exploring the universe and using “hypersleep” to get to Mars.

Next, Carolyn Porco, Sean Ono Lennon, Maeve Higgins and filmmaker Emer Reynolds discuss Emer’s film The Furthest, a documentary on Voyager 1. This conversation is especially cool because you get to hear from Carolyn about what it was like first-hand to work on Voyager 1 alongside Carl Sagan.

After that, we head to Mars. Mike Massimino breaks down how humans will get to and survive on Mars, with a little help from Maeve and Chief Scientist of NASA John Charles. Also, Neil and Bill debate whether they would go to Mars themselves and if we should send robots instead of humans.

One of my favorite additions to the StarTalk host line-up is neuroscientist Dr. Heather Berlin, and the clip you’ll hear from her episode “What is Consciousness?” with Heather Berlin is easily one of my favorite moments from the whole StarTalk Podcast Network this past year. You’ll hear about consciousness, free will, Dissociative Identity Disorder, and even more mind-bending topics.

To wrap things up we feature a couple clips on climate change. Bill, Chuck, and climate scientist Radley Horton discuss how the public can lead the fight against climate change, while Seth, Eugene Mirman, and climate scientist Ken Caldeira investigate the realities of climate change.

As you can see, we’ve covered a lot of ground during this season of StarTalk All-Stars. So, if you’re looking to expand your knowledge of science, StarTalk All-Stars is waiting for you.

Please join us tomorrow night for StarTalk All-Stars Season 2 Time Capsule at 7pm ET right here on our website, as well as on our channels on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Stitcher, and TuneIn. And if you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can listen to this episode ad-free at 7pm, too.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
