Our trio delve into different ways you can stay scientifically literate, like combining science and patriotic pride, or using certain print or online sources when looking for unbiased coverage of events. You’ll also get guidance on how to have a civil discussion with people who don’t share your world view, and much more.

I found this episode very helpful in my daily life. It appears a divisive cloud has been cast over everyone since the most recent election, making it so that every conversation now has a chance to eventually turn into a heated political discussion or debate. In times like these it’s helpful to hear tips and advice on how to stay scientifically literate and how to find truth in a sea of misinformation.

I didn’t used to think that tips like these would come in handy, but you never know when you’ll find yourself in need of helpful advice on how to deal with differing views. Recently when my uncle, who is more conservative then I am, came to town, we watched Last Week Tonight, with John Oliver, a show that I watch every week. Although it leans to the left, I still find that it keeps its journalistic integrity when dealing with research and the truth. However, when my uncle watched it, he saw it as something completely different. A show that, at times, was exaggerating statistics and facts to shape the truth. Instead of pointless arguing or staunch disagreement, we simply had a casual conversation on the subject and moved on – no one was upset or hurt (as far as I know).

Constructive, insightful, passionate, conversation is the key to helping move society forward. In this episode, Bill Nye and the gang push us in the right direction.

Please join us tomorrow night for Science and the Search for the Truth, with Bill Nye at 7pm EDT right here on our website, as well as on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Stitcher, and TuneIn. And if you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can watch or listen to this episode ad-free at 7pm, too.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
