Friday, Bill Nye and Chuck Nice Answer Fan Questions about Sci-Fi TV and Movies

This week on StarTalk Radio you’ll hear Bill Nye and comic co-host Chuck Nice discuss some of your favorite sci-fi shows like Star Trek, Lost, Gilligan’s Island, Lost in Space, and much more as they answer fan-submitted Cosmic Queries about Science Fiction on TV.

However, on this episode it’s not all about science-fiction television. You’ll hear about sci-fi movies as well as some Cosmic Queries about real science. Bill and Chuck talk about the “flux capacitor” in Back to the Future and discuss the problems with the Stormtrooper armor in Star Wars. You’ll also hear about making hyper sleep a reality for astronauts and a conversation on climate change runs steady throughout the episode.

On the subject of sci-fi, I will admit, and embarrassingly so, I just recently saw 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time. It was a visual masterpiece, and I was also fortunate enough to see it on a 70mm film print that was one of the original film prints used in its original theatrical release. Seeing it that way really made me appreciate what some of the early sci-fi films and television shows did with limited technology in regard to special effects.

This was such a great way to watch classic sci-fi film, or any film for that matter. If there is a showing of a sci-fi classic like one of the early Star Trek or Star Wars movies on film or with a new digital restoration at your local theatre I would highly recommend going to see it. It’s a great way to see some of your favorite films, and sometimes television shows – on the big screen.

But if you can’t make it to the theatre any time soon, StarTalk has plenty of sci-fi themed episodes for you to listen to including The Power of Science Fiction, with William Shatner, StarTalk All-Stars at NY Comic Con – The Science of Science Fiction, and more.

Please join us tomorrow night Cosmic Queries: TV Sci-Fi with Bill Nye at 7pm EDT right here on our website, as well as on Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud, Stitcher, Google Play Music, and TuneIn. And if you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can watch or listen to this episode ad-free at 7pm, too.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
