When we ask you, our fans, to submit Cosmic Queries, we invariably end up with far more than we can use in a single episode.
Especially when we ask for questions that are going to end up on an episode of StarTalk TV on the National Geographic Channel.
That’s exactly what happened when we asked for Cosmic Queries about expanding perspectives for our episode last season with Susan Sarandon.
And some of your questions were just too good to leave unanswered.
For instance, can physics explain why time seems to speed up as we get older?
Or, will the new breed of toys for girls that are intended to get them more interested in engineering have the desired effect, encouraging more women to see that they have an equal place in STEM fields?
Of course, this being StarTalk, there’s a question about how the discovery of life of any kind on Mars might change everyone’s perceptions of our place in the cosmos.
But there’s also a thoughtful question about whether new technology should be available to everyone, or just those that can afford it, and what the growing digital divide means for people on either ledge of that gaping chasm.
And yes, there are questions about the mind-expanding attributes of drugs like marijuana and hallucinogens. Both Bill and Chuck share their experiences, or lack thereof, with perspective expanding activities. They discuss the impact of legalization. And Bill shares the single thing he’s seen unexpectedly – and repeatedly – expand other people’s cosmic perspectives: the act of seeing Saturn with one’s own eyes through the lens of a telescope.
By the way, if you’ve got some spare time between now and tomorrow night, you may want to catch up on Expanding Our Perspectives, with Susan Sarandon, which you can also listen to commercial-free as a StarTalk All-Access subscriber.
Be sure to join us Tuesday night at 7pm EDT for Cosmic Queries – Expanding Perspective, with Bill Nye – StarTalk All-Stars, right here on our website or on iTunesPodcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Stitcher and TuneIn. And if you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can watch (yes, watch!) or listen to this entire episode commercial-free here.
That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
